Taare Zameen Par is regarded as one of the best movies in Indian cinema. Directed by Aamir Khan and Amol Gupte it was produced by Aamir and Kiran Rao. This 2007 release earned over Rs. 131 crores.
The multi star cast consists of Darsheel Safary, Aamir Khan, Tisca Chopra, Vipin Sharma, Sachet Engineer, Tanay Chheda and M.K. Raina. The writer is Amole Gupte. The movie had hit songs like “bum bum bole”, “tare zameen par”, “maa” and “jame raho”.Taare Zameen Par is about an eight year old boy named Ishaan Nandkishore Awasthi (Darsheel) who finds it difficult to study and hence fails his exams and subjects all the time. He suffers from dyslexia making it hard for him to concentrate and study. He excels in art but is not encouraged as the focus is always on studies and good grades.
Nandkishore (Vipin), Ishaan’s father is a successful executive and wants his boys to be the best in everything adding additional pressure to them. His mother Maya (Tisca) is frustrated because she can not understand why Ishaan can’t cope with school. His elder brother Yohaan (Sachet) is an excellent student and the two brothers are always compared. Ishaan’s sent to boarding school after he cuts classes in a bid to discipline him.
Ishaan only has one friend in the school, Rajan Damodran (Tanay). Soon, a temporary art teacher Ram Shankar Nikumbh (Aamir) enters the school and is friendly. He shares a casual relationship with his students gaining popularity amongst them. Nikumbh identifies that Ishaan is dyslexic. The movie then has Nikumbh explaining to Ishaan’s parents about dyslexia and helping Ishaan over come it, as he too once was dyslexic. Ishaan with the guidance of his teacher overcomes his condition and excels as a student in both arts and other subjects.
